Stream of consciousness

Not to get all James Joyce on you, but there are just a few thoughts rattling around in my brain. So, here they are, in no particular order...

It looks like I forgot to mention what happened to Gaslight in the last three miles of the 10M. Briefly, she blew my doors off. I know I got a little slower, but she got a lot faster. Nice run there, Madme President...

I think that I remember reading somewhere that soreness in your quads after a hard running effort has something to do with glycogen debt. That's the only reason I can think of that my quad would have cramped before my hamstrings or calves on a flat course. But man, they were sore for about three days. I ran a couple of short 4 milers on Tuesday and Wednesday--Wednesday felt better than Tuesday, but not by a whole lot.

Thursday I woke up feeling ok--quads felt a little weak, but not sore. So what did I do? Hour long spin class. Yeah, I'm smart. S-M-R-T.

Chicago was last weekend. It wasn't as hot, but it wasn't without controversy. Apparently they decided to start the elite men five minutes before the rest of the field. Which would have been fine, I guess, but they didn't put Wesley Korir in the elite start. And he had the fourth fastest chip time. Now, like most races do (and correctly so), Chicago awards prize money based on gun time, and on elite gun time, Korir was (I think) tenth. He's currently listed as the 4th place finisher on the Chicago Marathon website, but according to the IAAF, he's not eligible for the $15,000 prize money because he didn't have the same gun time start as the elites. Rumor has it, though, that RD Carey Pinkowski is going to give him a duplicate fourth place share, so he'll get $15,000. Rock on.

Molly Huddle won the US 10K Championships last weekend at Tufts, with a time of 32:52. Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame...

I took a little time to get back to blog reading (and I'm trying to get better about blog writing as well. It seems as though a few of my favorite runners have gone private with their blogs. Their prerogative, to be sure, but I feel like I've lost a few friends. So if you're out there, and you know that I *used* to read your blog, please send me an email. Even an "it's not you, it's me" would be fine...

I'm hoping to get in a long run this weekend, but I did an easy loop around Memorial this morning, and felt pretty wonky. I've been feeling progressively worse as the day has gone on. Hopefully it's just a cold, and it'll head out in a few days. Blah. 'Tis the season, I suppose.

Have a great weekend. Carpe viam!
